The town of Torrevieja.
Torrevieja is situated approx. 40 Klm south of Alicante airport,and 35 Klm north of Murcia airport about 30 mins drive down the N332 coast road.It is a typical spanish town with a resident population of around 100,000, this figure grows many fold in the summer months with the yearly influx of holiday makers.


Torrevieja has many ammenities which include, Shops, Resturants, Bars, Large marina, Two parks, Olympic size indoor swimming pool.
Also there are two Aqua parks, Night clubs, A good local bus service, and routes to other Costa Blanca resorts and towns.There are two hospitals in the town if you should need them, a municipal sports centre with tennis courts, volleyball courts. Also there is a football stadium, a theatre and four cinema`s.


The town of Torrevieja is situated between two lakes.The smaller of the two is lake La Mata, it is the home of all types of wild life, especially birds.You will find flocks of flamingoes and different types of wading birds.The other lake is called lake Torrevieja, the water in this lake is very shallow.The lake produces many tonnes of sea salt each year, which is shipped out to all over the world, it is one of the worlds largest salt producing lakes.


The town centre comes to life in the evenings.There you will find a long wide promenade,i t features a craft market with lots of stalls each evening, two large feature fountains, the marina and yatch club, a fairground which starts at 8-00pm each evening in the summer months. Also in the evenings the local police close off all the streets which join the promenade.This is to allow the bar and resturant owners to place their tables and chairs out in the open, so people can eat and drink into the small hours without a car in sight.


THE LOCAL CLIMATE.

The climate in southern Spain is generally very good all year round, but the climate around Torrevieja has been singled out as one of the worlds best climate. Why you might ask ?
Well not ownly does it have 350 days a year of sun with temperatures ranging between a low of 14 degs C. in winter, up to a high of around 35 degs C. in mid summer. The minerals given off by both lakes into the atmosphere make for a very healthy local eco climate also.

Hire a boat for the day from the marina.

Go on a nature walk down to La Mata lake.
Play golf on one of the five courses on the outskirts of town.
Visit the famous Torrevieja salt works.
